HKG- June (1)

Living in the UAE meant that I will miss watching my taiwanese variety shows unless I subscribe to the cableTV (which I'm not too confident that they have these channels).

Here's a tip to those who're living abroad: you could download programs that support live streaming of these shows. If you're using a macbook, go to your app store, download PPS for movies, and PPTV for variety shows!

Under the section 综艺节目, you could find 女人我最大,power星期天, and more, and one of my favorite programs is the chinese matchmaking show 非诚勿扰 which I find highly entertaining.

Moving on to my first trip to HKG in June - I've made 2 separate work trips to HKG in a month and it's pretty awesome to able to see my bestie and her family and with JS and Peiyu on the next.

Should have realized this dressing's a little too warm for the summer HKG
necklace: forever21
cream toga top: bershka
blue skinnies: bershka
black tote: shanghai
jelly flats: melissa

España brands like Bershka, Zara and Stradinvarius has always emptied my pockets for their street apparels. Dubai is indeed a sin-city.

Staying in the city itself made traveling an easy task for me, especially in the hearts of Causeway bay where I could find every restaurant that I want.

Travlled to Sheung Wan for 大排档 (traditional HKG food stall), one of which I've written on my last HKG trip - 胜香圆.

Address: No. 2 Mee Lun Street, Central
MTR via Sheung Wan exit E2 - walk towards Gough Street (which is the easier direction I find)
It's a 8 minutes walk from this station.

It would really help if you speak basic Cantonese because the vendors don't speak a bit of English at all, and I find that they don't really do Mandarin very much either. This is a very traditional food stall mend by locals, so it would help if you could use your body language to tell them what you prefer.

咸宁七 (Sprite with Salted Lemon)
Love this drink, it's really refreshing during a warm day!

Macaroni with beef and fried egg (tomato based)
I like their noodles/pastas best of all, couldn't find the same flavor in normal HKG fast food/chain restaurants.

The other dish you should try is the crispy lemon and honey toast (柠蜜脆脆). It's really famous there. Well, I had quite a bit since I was alone that morning, so I didn't order the toast.

Wing Kut Street is one street I definitely visit whenever I'm in Sheung Wan area.
IMG_1952 IMG_1953
It has a street mend by street vendors and a stretch of local stores.

Shak Shak Imitation Jewellary has loads of accessories - and I like to find my plain pearl earrings there.

Lemon King (introduced to me by Peiyu) is famous for its preserved lemon since 1970s and these lemon has been marinated with licorice powder and sugar, which is used to soothe throat problems.
I don't like licorice, but these marinated lemon has slight licorice taste doesn't put me off. I usually buy the bigger pack and put it into a tupperware when I'm home. Helps me delay the frequency of me contracting tonsillitis.

DingDing Bus that goes in Central area - in HKG, it helps if you have their Octopus card / 八达通 card, works like an ez-link card in Singapore, but I think their Octopus card program is more successful. You could use the value in supermarkets, 7-elevans, across the major modes of public transport (even the cruise that goes from Central to TST), and etc.

Returned to my hotel to place down my shopping items and rest before the evening.

Got some EOS items, but I will never patronize Colormix for its really bad service again >:( Would rather do SASA or Bonjour cosmetics stores anytime!
IMG_1964
I really like this EOS lip balm I got - its formulae is smooth and keeps your lips moisturized. I also like the lightly scented honeydew flavor it retains on the lips. The round shaped applicator makes it easy to apply.

I was supposed to meet my friend Peiyu in the evening for a seafood buffet, but decided in the end to go alone for dinner and to explore the area near my hotel a little.

Had the HK eggette (鸡蛋仔 - has its own wiki page :O )
I prefer the original, for HKD12.

Took pictures of the 茶餐厅/ chain restaurants they have in HKG. One of our favorites is the 翠华餐厅 (Cui Hua). It's very common in HKG - and I see it all across Mongkok, Causeway Bay, TST etc. I think there are 2 spamming across just 2 streets of CWB.
IMG_1974IMG_1975
发记甜点, my favorite dessert spot for durian crepes and mango shaved ice.
I've been to the CWB and Mongkok chains.

小巴 (mini bus) - one of the local buses in HKG which I had written about during my last trip.
IMG_1976

My favorite dessert of all time (I'm a big time lover of anything pudding/milk based) - Yee Shun Milk Company for its steamed milk.
IMG_1981IMG_1985
The variety of steamed milk items they have.

Also did my dinner there; Pork Chop noodles. I really like how they do their pork chops :)
Noodles and soup base is so-so.
IMG_1986IMG_1992
Glorious steamed milk pudding :D
HKD25 - I bought 1 back to the hotel :)

"live band" performance outside SASA.

Ended my day early so that I could wake up to meet Jess the next day!

*   *   *

Jess met me in the morning and brought Clara along! It was my first time meeting Clara since she was born. Big eyes, plump, cute face with the baby complexion- one of the best looking babies I've seen!

Told Jess that the first meal I have to have is roasted pork so Jake drove us to Central.
Due to my very poor memory, I couldn't remember the restaurant that we had roasted meat. Whatever it is, it's damn good. This is three in one - goose, roasted pork and char siew. 三拼!
IMG_1999

Hopped over to Tai Hing (another local chain restaurant) for their 冰冻奶茶!IMG_2003
Family of 3 - Jess, Clara, Jake.
I'm really glad I could get along with Jake, he's very accommodating and nice whenever we meet :)
IMG_2005
It never gets diluted since it's kept cold by the surrounding ice cubes.
This is REALLY good if you wanna have the local milk tea.

Went back to put our stuff in the room - and here's one with me, my bestie and new mama jess, with 10 months old mini Clara. She's really shy when she first met me, by the second visit, she doesn't even wanna entertain me anymore :(
IMG_2
Huge big fishball-like eyes that I die to have.

Schweppes cream soda!!!!!! I wish we have this in SG/DXB.
IMG_2012 IMG_2013
Settled at 荣记 for 车仔面 which is a little like Yong Tau Foo in SG, but the ingredients is more of meat items. You could choose between clear soup and braised soup and there are several types of noodles you could pick.
IMG_2015IMG_2016 IMG_2018
I had the braised soup with kway teow (flat noodles) and 3 different types of ingredients. I think there was chicken wings, fish wrapped in bean curd skin, and fish balls maybe?

One last picture of us before I retire to rest :)
IMG_2019 IMG_2022
Upon coming back to DXB, I unpacked the stuff that Jess sent me, and viola - food rations for my next couple months! Really appreciate that Jess!!!!! Asian food and packed sauces make such good present! :D:D

Writing on my Munich trip next, I'm striking off the items I need to blog from my list!
