Korea II - Myeong-Dong

So I've been skype-calling mom and we've decided the best way to do Swiss is to get a 7Day package from an established tour agency. I doubt dad will really wanna do a Italy/France shopping trip. With my leave in October, I could do a lot with it - so it's either I go to the Swiss 7D with them (with lucerne and interlaken as our priority must-go in consideration) or I do a solo Europe/Asia. Well, we'll see where I end up in during my leave.

I'm back for Korea Part II! I try to post timely updates as much as I can.
IMG_2808
Lotte - largest korean conglomerate which owns over 60 businesses, including food, hotels, retail, publishing, etc. One of my favorite of their products includes Lotte World in Seoul :)

Walking down the streets of Myeong-dong, the main shopping area in Seoul.
IMG_2809 IMG_2810
one of the departmental stores, Moon Square.

The long-time-no-see Missha store which gradually 'disappeared' in Singapore is still quite the hot favorite in Korea.
IMG_2811IMG_2813
Certainly - the very much raved BB creams that skinfood makes, is commonly seen in Seoul.

IMG_2812 IMG_2815
Jill by Jill Stuart apparels.

the lovely cosmetics lane include the very princess-y etude house, holika-holika which was once seen in Wisma Atria, and the ever popular faceshop.
IMG_2814
I've seen at least 3 tonymolys in Myeong-dong and there's another one coming up *stabs*

IMG_2816IMG_2817
Us soaking up in the atmosphere of shopping.
We came to town early so not much crowds were seen.

IMG_2819
Every korean cosmetic store there has really pretty furbishments - take holika holika as a good example.

In need for a coffee and coffee houses are easily seen - we went into one which looks quiet from the outside so that we can fill it with our chats and laughters.

Meet Terence (from China) and Charlotte (from HongKong)
IMG_2823
also seen with my buddy, Curry.

IMG_2824IMG_2825
Roaming the streets of MyeongDong with me buying random things like tons of handcreams (as usual), cosmetic items like eyeliners and stuff.

Brands to items I prefer, I have to say I'm attracted to their packaging too:
Faceshop - Facial Masks
Holika holika - Pencil eyeliner
Innisfree - Handcream (grapefruit scented)
Skinfood - Mushroom BB cream
Tony Moly - Lip items (lipstick, lipbalm), tomato mask
Not a big fan of etude house :p

IMG_2828
IMG_2829
Cutest kitty hand moisturisers, aren't they cute!!!

and Innisfree Spiderman and Batman facial masks for men - how creative! Bought one for JS to try :)
IMG_2830

Yet to explore Nature Republic as a brand because there are just too many of them!
IMG_2832

Waiting for a friend of Terence's to bring us around for lunch.
IMG_2834IMG_2836IMG_2837

After meeting up, Yixin then brought us to have Seolleongtang, which is pretty well-known in Myeongdong.
IMG_2838
It's a broth made of ox bones. It may seem tasteless to some, because seasoning is added according to personal taste. So salt, garlic, and red pepper is on the side for customers to add accordingly.

While waiting for our soup, we had our free flow kimchi and radish. The kimchi is the best I've tasted- I had just forgotten to bring some back to DXB. Grrrr...
IMG_2840IMG_2842IMG_2843
I like how light it tasted (after adding half a tablespoon of salt) and the beef is tender - goes very well with rice and a bit of kimchi :) All of us ended drinking all the soup and after reading about it on wiki, it seemed that this soup had quite a bit of history >>> click here!

We went to do some street shopping along the roads of Gangnam and we took the metro as an experience. It seemed that Seoul's metro is pretty well-connected!
IMG_2846IMG_2847

Heading onto Sinsadong Garuso-gil (part Gangnam area) where lots of pretty concept stores/bars are.IMG_2848
The Mango Six coffee where "A gentleman's dignity" is filmed (my recent favorite korea drama up to date!)
IMG_2849
Heh, I'm pretty sure I'll go in for a coffee some time soon!

And we went into a really pretty hair accessories store. My goodness - these hair accessories ain't cheap but they're such gorgeous pieces XD
IMG_2851IMG_2852
and an underground handmade accessories store.

Can't wait to go to Korea again - and I'm hoping that I will get to go again in October.
*fingers crossed*

Korea - the Gangnam style

I am finally settling down to look at my Europe vacation itinerary for October. Still looking into these places: Lucerne, Paris/Nice and Venice. Haven't looked at my tickets (yet, cos it's all full for Emirates for the time being to these places) or my hotels. Sigh.
Anyone has good traveling tips or itineraries for these areas in EU? ;)

Gonna blog about Seoul (Aug/Sept) since I have some days off this week before my 2 Shanghai trips!

My hotel room in Seoul
IMG_2334 IMG_2336
Pretty decent.
It's easy to go around Seoul since there's almost everything around.
Convenience stores, different brands of coffee houses, supermarkets and cosmetic stores almost everywhere to be seen!

Went to a korean BBQ restaurant with a friend, Ming that the hotel concierge recommends. When I travel, I always make sure I ask for directions from concierge - they know the surroundings of the hotel best! :-)
IMG_2338 IMG_2340 IMG_2343
we ordered 2 sets of pork and a soup to share ;D

IMG_2344
Isn't Ming really sweet looking?

The usual korean appetisers that seems so delectable :)
IMG_2346 IMG_2347
Doenjang Jjigae (fermented soyabean paste and vegetable stew)

the pork slices that came from ribs are so good - tender, well marinated and taste good with gochujang (korean hot pepper paste) with veg.
IMG_2348 IMG_2349
Makes me hungry everytime I look at that picture!

Stopped by 7-11 to get some drinks for breakfast.
IMG_2354IMG_2355IMG_2351
My must-get every trip is the banana milk. The strawberry milk still taste as good as 5 years ago, when I was in Seoul for holidays :)

Walked our way to the Gangnam Underground Subway Market!
IMG_2358 IMG_2360

Passed by Olive Young - which is commonly seen in most places -
it's a huge cosmetics store, where u can get almost every brand there!
IMG_2362
IMG_2364
It was raining that day but it didn't dampen our mood for shopping :p

Entered the subway, Tony Moly greeted us :)
IMG_2371IMG_2370 IMG_2373
We strolled in and out of many cosmetics stores, which fascinates us because prices are relatively cheaper than singapore/china/dubai so we couldn't stop ourselves at buying masks!
I also bought the bb cream from skinfood which is very well-raved and some clothes that start from USD10-15!
I'm not sure if Gangnam is cheaper than our wholesale Dongdaemun, but i'm pretty happy shopping at the former since they're small stores which don't require you to buy in bulk

Strolled into the mall that linked us to the subway and found really pretty korean accessories - which I didn't buy any of them since I am known to lose them often :p
IMG_2376
I will recommend Gangnam underground market to those who like their Myeongdong shopping too :)

#selfshot before we go into more hardcore shopping!
IMG_2378 IMG_2380
Ming cleared the shelf of ginseng masks since they're not sold in most places.
IMG_2381
Skinfood is so cheap in korea, omg....

IMG_2383
Bibimbap for me
IMG_2384
and ramyeon for her :)IMG_2385

my takeaways from Seoul;
korea1
spot market-o brownie snacks which are known to be good!
my best purchase has to be the lace top which is of pretty good quality - just 15USD ;)

and my 2 favorite lip items - tony moly bear gloss and nivea colored lip balm in cherry xD
photo-1

I'm going to do my Korean trip part II with my buddy and other friends tomorrow! Watch this space ;D
