Shanghai I - continued

Just got to doing pictures for Shanghai!
I traveled alone this trip because I figured I needed some time away from people, and since I speak the language (Mandarin), it would be great if I could do some sort of single trip here.

Here're some pictures of the hotel I stayed, which was awesome. The bathroom was huge for one really, and I had a sofa area which was beautiful.

there's an aisle that you walk through before reaching the bed, and everything looks so oriental-western fusion, it's really nice :)

Had takeaway and my colleague said that this chinese fast food chain had awesome taiwanese influenced dishes, so I ordered the fattest ever mei cai qo you (steamed mui choy with pork belly) and I loved it!
IMG_1012
yums, cost me around S$4+ for a set like that, with fresh soya bean drink.

Went out later in the evening after unpacking and sorting out some itineraries, and took some pictures while i walked around the hotel vicinity.
IMG_1013
Opposite the hotel are some convenient stores and restaurants.

Hotel on left, and some office building on the right, along with residential area.
IMG_1018IMG_1020
chinese starbucks

the only store I wished we had in Dubai since DXB had everything:
IMG_1026 IMG_1028
Wanted to try this rice wine+steamed pudding mix but they were sold out on that day. Will come back to try this end month!

Happy lemon because I missed bubble tea, I liked that china is very much into bubbles!
IMG_1029

I loved the exterior of the hotel - changes lights and its beautiful.
It was a little crowded due to a cosmetic tradeshow in the function rooms, and they had hotel guests streaming in to stay as well.
IMG_1034IMG_1035

convenient stores like these are common, and my favorite has to be family mart.
IMG_1036

lobby bar has a beautiful stage with bands playing fusion music.
IMG_1037

the aisle that i was talking about earlier, and my supper for that day;
convenient store purchases: gui ling gao (herbal jelly), matcha mousse pocky (love this!!) and taiwanence milk tea!
IMG_1039IMG_1040

woke up the next morning and 5am
(holly cow, every day i wake up at this timing, and I feel so tired by 3pm)
IMG_1045IMG_1051
<3 my jumper though i regretted wearing it in the day. Bloody warm, but its a good choice for night.

this beauty studio practices morning work out for their employees so that they can be energized at work. Team spirit yo!
IMG_1046

my colleague, courtney and I went back to the fast food to get our breakfast!

gyoza!
IMG_1047 IMG_1049
courtney had the dish i had for dinner the day before and awww, i loved it!

I had zha jiang mian (black bean minced meat sauce noodles) and mmm a great breakfast dish it is!
Accompanied by our favorite fresh soya bean drink :>
IMG_1050

Courtney went back to hotel to catch some more rest before meeting her friends, while I took a train to where she recommended me to go for cheap shopping thrill!
IMG_1053IMG_1054

Took a train to this place where they sell really cheap apparel... it resembles something like Bangkok's Platinium mall, which is located near East Nanjing Road.
It's called Qi Pu Lu and is rather famous within locals, where they also sell wholesale.
IMG_1057IMG_1055
the newer malls are more spacious but when i went to the xingwang mall, i had little standing space and it was really crowded.
Prices are better in xingwang though :)
IMG_1059IMG_1060IMG_1061
I was trying to find heels but the types of shoes they sell don't appeal to me.. either they are in odd shapes or they look too fanciful.. too much crystal studs and blings somehow isn't my style.

Took a train back when it's time to rest, at around 4pm. I had too many bags for one to hold.
The metro liens are so convenient and since I stayed beside a metro stop, it's really cheap to travel from hotel to city. Takes me around S$1.60 to and fro.
IMG_1064

my purchases, was trying to look for some winter coats but darn, there's only one shop which sells them.
IMG_1065
everything for less than SGD80, sweet deals :)
Brolly S$4 each, shorts for S$5, wallet and bag of quality material S$12 each, tees at S$5, jacket at S$30.
I didn't even try to bargain because every store was so busy O.O

Slept 3 hours before I went out at night. Stopped by East Nanjing road again to get to see the view at the Bund. It's a must go from the sites that I googled!
IMG_1068IMG_1070 IMG_1072

Had a light snack before I continued walking towards the bridge to the Bund.
  IMG_1074IMG_1079

Leaving you with pictures because I had little idea how to add captions to these :p
IMG_1082 IMG_1084IMG_1088IMG_1089IMG_1099

Behind me is this oriental pearl tower (东方明珠塔)
It's a TV tower in Shanghai which used to be one of the tallest buildings.

pictures of the night view of the Bund
otherwise known in chinese - 外滩, a waterfront area in Shanghai.
IMG_1118IMG_1130IMG_1134IMG_1138
Lots of well-lit and beautiful buildings that don't make you feel like you're in China at all :)
Lovely place to be in that takes your breath away.
I loved how breezy it was to be at this waterfront and how troubled-free I felt when I was there.
Well-recommended!

Went back to the mall and chanced upon my HKG favorite drink here!
IMG_1141 IMG_1143
Took back mango drink with hashima - a great day I had that made me really happy :-)
I didn't think that I could ever travel alone in a place I've never been - but I was fortunate enough not to be lost and kept chancing to places and things I was happy to go/to do!
That's amazing!

Went back via the train - you could see how detailed the train network map is and every exit is clearly labelled. I am pretty impressed by Shanghai really, the only thing I think they could still work on is having people to stop spitting in public :\

trusty converse I had

and my dinner - suan cai fei niu! Chinese Sauerkraut with Sliced Beef :)IMG_1149

amazing Shanghai I

keep-calm-keep-calm--travel-Favim.com-146293_large
Just came back from Shanghai and I'm so blessed to be able to do so much within 3 days.
Feeling very blessed not to be lost or needing help with directions though I traveled alone, I realized how observant I needed to be to signs and surroundings for the first time).
Shanghai's amazing by the way, I didn't need taxis due to their awesome metro and signs to places I wanted to go and it is great being a Chinese, everyone thinks you're from some part of China and won't try to jack up prices when you're bargaining.

Posting pictures soon - 2 days down to Beijing, this feels a little like a China tour this month!

Sushi x Gatherings

Adele invited us over her place to do handmade sushi and I was totally game for it!
After a tiring work trip from LHR, I slept for 12 hours before I woke up and prepared!
IMG_0844IMG_0842 IMG_0846IMG_0848
Never knew handmade sushi can be this delicious and easy to make, thanks to chef adele!

IMG_0849 IMG_0853 IMG_0854
korean sushi (wrapped with spinach and kimchi)
This must be our favorite!

The one below are rolled with fresh vegetables and crabmeat, I like this better though it's not as flavorful as the korean ones, because they were light to eat :)
IMG_0858

V also made radish and carrot soup for us - yummy!
IMG_0856

Challenged V for a creative sushi contest where I sprung out ideas to make a huge california roll that made us burst out in laughter! I tried to do a fake onigiri which they called "sushi sandwich" LOL.
IMG_0862IMG_0867IMG_0866IMG_0874
aww, these huge rolls were awesome to look at and eat!

Adele gave us a second challenge for the day - these ice cubes were really hard to pop out of their cases.
IMG_0877IMG_0883IMG_0885
but so pretty to look at!

Lastly, steffie brought M&S scones to share with us - her love from Manchester ;)
I'm looking forward to a work trip to MAN end this month, another part of UK i'm going... Thinking if I should really get my hands on the pretty Cambridge red satchel :D
IMG_0887

* * * *

The next day, Rita and I had a course to attend before we went for coffee. I had briefly less than 4 hours sleep the night before.
IMG_0889
Decided to do lunch here too :)
IMG_0891IMG_0893

@ my favorite dean & deluca restaurant;IMG_0894 IMG_0896 IMG_0898 IMG_0901IMG_0903

Marvelous food with my shopping buddy in DXB.
IMG_0899IMG_0902 IMG_0908IMG_0909
we shopped so much that day, I think I spent around SGD200 on stuff I didn't much needed.
GRRRR should have done that in primark instead which is perhaps much cheaper.

Joined the girls at night at fusion with flavors restaurant at Al Quasias for Schirien's birthday :)
IMG_0912 IMG_0911
V and Em made a beautiful chocolate cake for Schirien - that's lots of love!

Em and I shared a pepperoni pizza that got me choking on how spicy it was :-(
IMG_0913IMG_0915
and the wonderful strawberry shake I had.

For my dutch lady, Schirien's 27th!
IMG_0917 IMG_0921IMG_0925
Schirien's blessed with lots of wonderful gifts and a great dinner that night.
Love<3!
